Welfare Benefits

The welfare rights team at the bureau are responsible for assisting clients calculate possible benefit entitlement; claim relevant benefits; liaise with benefit agencies when problems arise; and challenge benefit decisions.  We are able to assist people at the bureau; at the local hospital outreach; and with home visits to people who are unable to come to the office.

The current benefit system can be confusing and, at times, frustrating so we can assess your entitlement using a comprehensive benefits checker and then advise on how to make any appropriate claims.

As of June 2016 changes to the benefit system means that Universal Credit is fully operational within the Highlands area, including Nairn, and will affect people of working age. At the bureau we’re working to keep clients informed on how these important changes may effect them and advice that if there’s any change of circumstance with respect to any benefit claims please come in and ask for information and advice before contacting the Department of Works and Pensions.
